Cambodian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Ms. Mali Sukcheata stated on the 1st that Cambodia welcomes Thailand's proposal to hold talks next week in Malaysia regarding the border dispute.
At a press conference, she said: "Cambodia welcomes Thailand's proposal to hold a Joint Border Committee meeting in Kuala Lumpur."
She said: "We are very confident that this meeting will be constructive and will yield fruitful results."
Mali Sukcheata also noted that Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Tea Seiha and Thai Deputy Minister of Defense Napanit will attend the meeting.
On July 31, the Office of the Spokesperson of the Thai Ministry of Defense posted on social media that Napanit had sent a letter in response to the Cambodian invitation, expressing his willingness to attend the Joint Border Committee meeting, to discuss ways to ease the Thailand-Cambodia border tensions and resolve border security issues. However, considering the current sensitivity of the situation, the Thai side proposed that the meeting be held in Malaysia and to extend the meeting time to August 4–7, with Secretariat meetings on the 4th to 6th and a special Joint Border Committee meeting on the 7th.
