(Shenyang, May 4) – On May 2, the Liaoning Provincial Museum welcomed 32,261 visitors, marking a 76.16% year-over-year increase and setting a new single-day attendance record since the museum’s establishment.
As the first museum established in New China, the Liaoning Provincial Museum boasts a collection of nearly 120,000 artifacts, including tens of thousands of precious items such as Court Ladies Adorning Their Hair with Flowers and Auspicious Cranes. In recent years, the growing popularity of tourism and the rising trend of “museum fever” have turned the museum into a major attraction, especially during the May Day holiday.
Every morning during the holiday, long lines formed at the museum entrance even before it opened. To accommodate visitors’ needs, the museum extended its hours during the May Day holiday, operating from 9 AM to 6 PM, with no reservations required for entry.
At the newly launched immersive XR exhibition Exploring the Mysteries of the Haihunhou Kingdom, visitors were transported 2,000 years back to the grandeur of the Han Dynasty. The exhibit, themed around “exploration,” uses relics from the Haihunhou Kingdom Museum and integrates virtual reality, 3D modeling, and interactive design to bring ancient history and artifact stories to life in an immersive, interactive space.
From traditional artifact exhibits to digital displays, the museum offers a variety of exhibitions to cater to audiences of all backgrounds. Featured exhibitions during the May Day holiday included An Overview of China: Selected Bamboo Slips Unearthed in Gansu, Strolling Through Beauty: Artifacts on the Female Theme from Ancient Rome, and Tang and Song Elegance: The Artistic World of Digital Paintings.
Cultural and creative products have also become popular among visitors. Items such as the Spring Outing of the Court Ladies of the Guo State fridge magnet series, bringing springtime joy into daily life, were particularly well-received.
