(Bandar Seri Begawan, 6th) The Criminal Investigation Department’s Cybercrime Investigation Unit of the Royal Brunei Police Force reminds the public to stay vigilant against online scammers. These scams include offering financial assistance and forging ‘royal membership cards’ through social media platforms such as Facebook.
It was discovered that criminals use the names and photos of royal family members to deceive victims, promising non-existent financial rewards, gifts, or citizenship. Victims are often asked to make advance payments to unknown bank accounts.
The police remind the public not to be deceived by suspicious offers, never to disclose personal information, and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately. Additionally, the public is reminded to ensure their family members remain vigilant during any online transactions.
