(Kuching, 5th) Sarawak Metro has issued a stop-work order to the contractor, suspending construction activities at the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project site on Jalan Sebangkoi. Earlier, a construction worker fell from the top of a 14-meter-high structure this morning and unfortunately died.
In a statement, Sarawak Metro confirmed that the deceased was a Nepalese worker. The accident occurred at around 8:30 am this morning when he was carrying out deck slab installation work at the site, during which he fell from a height and sustained fatal injuries.
"After the accident, the injured worker was immediately sent to the nearest hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival," the company stated.
Sarawak Metro said that the company and the relevant contractor are currently working closely with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to investigate the cause of the accident.
The stop-work order for the affected site will remain in effect until the relevant enforcement agencies have completed their investigations.
Sarawak Metro emphasized that the company is always committed to ensuring that all construction sites comply with safety standards and will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
