On the evening of the 9th, Russian Presidential Aide Ushakov stated that President Putin had a phone conversation with U.S. President Trump at Trump’s request. The call focused on the situation in Iran, the situation in Ukraine, and other international issues. Putin put forward some suggestions for ending the hostilities around Iran as soon as possible through political and diplomatic means.

This was the first phone conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States since the large-scale military operation jointly launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28th. The conversation between the two leaders lasted about an hour.

According to Ushakov, on the issue of resolving the conflict in Iran through political and diplomatic means as soon as possible, Putin expressed several ideas, including considering communication that would involve leaders of several Gulf countries, Iranian President Pezeshkian, and leaders of other countries. Trump briefed Putin on his assessment of the recent situation against the backdrop of continued U.S.-Israeli actions.

Ushakov said: “Both sides held a specific and constructive exchange on this topic.”

Ushakov pointed out that Trump once again expressed his hope for an early ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, to reach a long-term solution to the Ukraine issue.

In addition, the Russian and American leaders also discussed the Venezuela issue from the perspective of the global crude oil market.
