Lebanon, Israel, and the US Reach Tripartite Framework Agreement

Lebanon, Israel, and the United States concluded a new round of four-day ceasefire and withdrawal talks in Washington on the 26th and announced the signing of a tripartite framework agreement.

The agreement was jointly signed by the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to the US, as well as US State Department official Heller.

US Secretary of State Rubio issued a statement saying that the process established by the agreement aims to restore Lebanese sovereignty, disarm Hezbollah, and ensure that Israel can return to its borders once the threat is eliminated.

According to the agreement, a tripartite military coordination group spearheaded by the US will be established to assist Lebanon and Israel in implementing the framework. The US Department of Defense will provide over $30 million (about 122.72 million ringgit) to support the Lebanese Armed Forces in achieving lasting peace. In addition, the US will coordinate with the United Nations to provide $100 million in humanitarian aid.

Under the agreement, the Israeli military will withdraw from two zones within their approximately 6-mile (about 9.7 km) deep security zone established in southern Lebanon, with the vacated areas to be taken over by the Lebanese Army.

Furthermore, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said in a video address that both sides agreed to launch pilot projects in two areas to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon, and to transfer control of these regions to the Lebanese government forces. Both zones were proposed by the Israeli military: one is located south of the Litani River, outside the original security zone; the other is north of the Litani River, in a small part of the expanded security zone from the past two weeks, which the Israeli military considers no longer necessary to occupy.

According to the US Axios news website, the framework agreement lays out a path for a future Lebanon-Israel peace agreement and immediate measures to be taken by both parties.
