7.8-Magnitude Earthquake Off East Kamchatka Peninsula Poses No Tsunami Threat to Malaysia

A strong earthquake struck off the east coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula early this morning, with the epicenter located about 107 kilometers southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.8.

According to information released by the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred at 7:24 am on Wednesday (30th), with the epicenter at 52.6°N latitude and 160.1°E longitude, and a depth of 42 kilometers.

The relevant authorities have confirmed that this earthquake will not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia. At present, there are no detailed reports of serious damage or casualties in the affected area.
