UK Plans to Recognize Palestinian State; Trump: I Oppose

After discussing the Gaza conflict, US President Trump stated on the 18th that he disagrees with UK Prime Minister Starmer's position regarding the UK's plan to recognize Palestinian statehood.

On the second day of his visit to the UK, Trump held a joint press conference with Starmer at the prime minister's Chequers residence. Trump said: “On this point, I disagree with the Prime Minister. This is one of the few things we differ on.”

On July 29, the UK Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement saying that if Israel does not take substantive action to end the horrific situation in Gaza and promise to achieve long-term sustainable peace, the UK will recognize the State of Palestine before the opening of the UN General Assembly in September to preserve the viability of the 'two-state solution.'

Since the new round of Israel-Palestine conflict erupted on October 7, 2023, Israel, with US support, has become increasingly isolated internationally. Besides the UK, France, Canada, Australia, and other Western allies of the US have also announced their readiness to recognize the Palestinian State.

During Trump’s visit to the UK, the two countries signed the “Technology Prosperity Agreement,” focusing on cooperation in technological areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and civil nuclear energy.
