A death has been reported at a cosmetic clinic in Zhongshan District, Taipei City, after a 50-year-old man underwent a 'penile enlargement surgery' and allegedly died suddenly of unknown causes.

Police have already taken the surgeon involved and the assisting nurse in for questioning. It is understood that the man went alone to a cosmetic clinic on Jinzhou Street on the morning of the 17th of this month. After an initial consultation, he immediately decided to proceed with the surgery, which cost as much as 400,000 NTD (approximately RM 55,600).

The operation was completed around 12 noon, but unexpectedly, the man suffered an emergency post-surgery and was pronounced dead on the spot.

The doctor claimed that, after the surgery, the patient was allowed to rest on the examination bed until around 7 p.m. when it was discovered that he had no heartbeat or respiration, and 119 was called for emergency assistance.

However, when paramedics arrived, the man was already clearly deceased and was not transported to a hospital. Police have initially classified the incident as involuntary manslaughter and have taken the doctor in for questioning, also summoning the female nurse who participated in the procedure to give a statement. Prosecutors have also arrived at the scene to clarify the sequence of events.

It is reported that the doctor involved has been involved in multiple previous medical disputes, including high-risk procedures such as artificial penile implants. There was a previous case where a patient, after undergoing an eight-hour operation, suddenly stopped breathing while recovering at the clinic and eventually died.
