Emergency Recall of Infant Formula: ByHeart Products Linked to U.S. Botulism Outbreak

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) The Brunei Food Authority (BDFA) hereby notifies the public that the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) has issued a recall notice for ByHeart Complete Nutrition Infant Formula.

This formula has been linked to an outbreak of infant botulism in several states in the United States. Infant botulism usually begins with constipation, but the earliest symptoms often include feeding difficulties (problems with sucking and swallowing), unusually weak crying, and decreased head control.

The recall involves all batch numbers and all packaging types (cans and single-serve packs) of ByHeart Complete Nutrition Infant Formula. The product has also been sold online through major retailers such as Amazon, and Amazon has notified all customers who purchased the product via its platform.

BDFA has confirmed that the affected brand’s products have not been commercially imported into the country. However, any members of the public who have brought the product into the country as personal items or purchased it via online platforms should immediately stop using it.

BDFA reminds the public that under Section 9(1)(i) of the Public Health (Food) Act (Chapter 182), any person who prepares, sells, or imports food that may endanger health is liable to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.
