The Cambodian royal family recently celebrated the event of the year — 28-year-old Princess Norodom Poungsoreayak officially got married in Phnom Penh to local entrepreneur and CEO of Provida bottled water, Chea Sopheaktra. The multi-day wedding featured four major ceremonies, blending traditional Khmer culture, royal protocol, and modern fashion. Foreign media described it as 'the most glamorous Cambodian royal wedding in recent years.'
The King Attends, Entrance with Smoke Effects Like a Fantasy Realm
According to reports from HOLA! and Histoires Royales, the wedding comprised pre-wedding celebrations, traditional Khmer ceremonies, a royal blessing ritual, and a Western-style dinner reception. Each event had its own unique theme and distinct outfit changes, turning the occasion into a dazzling fashion spectacle.
During the main ceremony, Princess Poungsoreayak wore a custom-made Italian satin gown embroidered with Khmer motifs and a diamond tiara, fully displaying her royal aura. For the Western-style dinner, she changed into a white feathered gown evoking a 1920s retro vibe. Throughout the other rituals, the princess donned various traditional Khmer dresses adorned with an abundance of jewelry, symbolizing her family's heritage.
The venue décor was also highly theatrical, with the entrance featuring smoke machines and giant screens projecting the couple's arrival, making it seem like a dreamlike fantasy. The princess entered hand-in-hand with her father, Prince Norodom Chakrapong, and later offered the first dance of the dinner to him — a touching scene. King Norodom Sihamoni was also present to personally bestow his blessings upon his niece.
According to reports, the wedding banquet featured traditional Khmer specialties, Western-style desserts, and entertainingly included fast food such as fried chicken, burgers, and fries, all paired with premium Dalmore whisky — a truly lavish feast.
The groom, Chea Sopheaktra, is heir to Cambodian conglomerate Daun Penh Trading and manager of the Provida natural mineral water brand, with annual revenues exceeding US$7.8 million (RM32.2 million). He was listed among '40 Under 40' most influential figures by Prestige Online Cambodia and is seen as a rising star of the local business scene.
The couple announced their engagement on social media in February this year, instantly becoming a social media sensation across Southeast Asia, and are hailed as the 'Gen Z royal couple' role models.
