The Lunar New Year isn’t even over yet, and as Taiwan’s Golden Melody Award-winning singer Julia Peng approaches her 30th debut anniversary, her recent actions have come under the spotlight by Mirror Media. During the time her former agent Xiao Tian was diagnosed with cancer, Peng allegedly terminated their collaboration immediately and went separate ways. It was further reported that there were bullying remarks such as, “You don’t even have children, what do you earn so much money for?” This left her former agent feeling heartbroken. Subsequently, Peng turned to join the management team under Golden Melody Award-winning singer Eve Ai’s agent friend and veteran music figure, Zuo Guangping. On the morning of the 25th, Zuo Guangping responded to EToday News: “I really hope there will not be any more malicious provocation that will make things worse or more complicated. I have never ceased to be grateful and respectful to Sister Tian. It’s truly regrettable that things have become like this. Thank you all for your concern.”
Looking back on Julia Peng’s rise, she debuted in 1996 with her first album ‘Speak the Truth,’ which achieved sales of 400,000 copies. Its lead single ‘Old Dreams’ remains popular today. With this album, she won Best New Artist at the 8th Golden Melody Awards; however, she subsequently went through a long period of stagnation, until her participation in the Chinese reality show ‘I Am a Singer’ in 2013, which revived her career. Throughout these years, Xiao Tian had accompanied Julia through various lows, including her divorce, and witnessed Julia’s ascent to Golden Melody Best Female Singer in 2016 with the album ‘Mature Woman.’ Whether in her career’s highs or lows, Xiao Tian was by Julia’s side. However, reports now state that after being diagnosed with cancer, the partnership shifted to Zuo Guangping, who was also the project planner and friend behind the album ‘Mature Woman.’
