Minister Urges Not to Spread Students’ Images to Avoid Secondary Harm to Those Involved

(Kuching, 15th) Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri has called on the public not to share or disclose the photos and identities of students involved in the recent stabbing incident at a secondary school in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on social media.
She reminded that such actions violate the Children’s Act and may further cause psychological and emotional harm to the victims and related students.
Nancy pointed out that although the incident happened on school grounds and does not fall directly under her ministry’s jurisdiction, all matters involving children are still protected under the Children’s Act.
She said this in an interview yesterday (October 14th) after attending the “World Zakat and Waqf Forum 2025” at Hikmah Center in Kuching:
“This incident did indeed happen in a school, and while it does not fall under my ministry’s direct jurisdiction, because it involves children, the Children’s Act must be observed. I received information that some photos have already been circulated on social media.”
“As the minister in charge of children's affairs, I solemnly urge everyone to immediately stop sharing the relevant images, as this is a violation of the Children’s Act. We must respect the law and avoid causing further harm to those involved. The police have already taken action against the student involved — that is all I can disclose at this point.”
It is understood that the incident occurred yesterday morning at a secondary school in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, where a Form Four female student was allegedly stabbed by a male student and unfortunately passed away.
