(Bintulu, 15th) Cardiac treatment services in Central Sarawak have received a significant boost — the newly established Cardiac Unit at Bintulu Hospital, equipped with advanced medical equipment worth RM2.25 million, donated by the Sarawak Heart Foundation.
The handover ceremony was held on Monday at Bintulu Hospital, officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Sarawak Heart Foundation Vice Chairman, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian.
Dr. Sim pointed out that the fundraising was made possible by generous contributions from various parties, including RM1.6 million from Petroleum Sarawak (PETROS), RM500,000 from Press Metal Bintulu, and RM150,000 from Bintulu Port Holdings.
“With these funds, Bintulu Hospital successfully completed its Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) in February this year, making it the second public hospital in Sarawak, after the Sarawak Heart Centre, to have such a facility,” he said.
He added that since February 24th, the Sarawak Heart Centre has sent two cardiologists to fly to Bintulu twice a month to provide specialist diagnosis and treatment services.
As of the end of September, a total of 145 patients have received treatment, including 75 percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures.
“With the establishment of the Cath Lab, heart patients in Bintulu and surrounding areas will no longer need to be referred to the Sarawak Heart Centre in Kota Samarahan. This facility will serve as a 'mini satellite centre', greatly increasing access to treatment and helping save more lives,” he said.
Dr. Sim also expressed gratitude to all donors and called on more corporations and individuals to support the Sarawak Heart Foundation, to help heart patients in need receive treatment.
