Full Crowd Praises 'So Darn Pretty' Amidst Laughter; Sammi Cheng Blends In and Loudly Cheers 'Prosperity, Thriving, Fortune'

Hong Kong diva Sammi Cheng made a whirlwind return to Malaysia after 10 years away to promote the Lunar New Year film "King of the Night." On the afternoon of the 11th, she appeared at Kuala Lumpur Pavilion for the only Malaysian fan meeting. Even though it was a weekday afternoon, the venue was packed with people; loyal fans lifted support banners to welcome her with enthusiasm, making her beam with joy as soon as she came on stage. During the fan meeting she was in top form—sometimes domineering, sometimes playful and mischievous, sometimes cutely acting coy. When she heard the audience unanimously praise 'Sister V' as 'so darn pretty', she was overjoyed and couldn't stop laughing. Upon learning that many audience members had already pre-purchased movie tickets, she playfully struck a signature nightclub hostess pose and sweetly said: “Thank you, boss!” She even blended into the local culture by loudly cheering, “Prosper! Thrive! Fortune!” to wish the movie a box office hit, instantly bringing the atmosphere to its climax.

Director Ray Wu led the cast at the event, including Sammi Cheng and Malaysian actresses Fish Liew and Jace Chan. The event kicked off with a lively lion dance, the sounds of drums blending with enthusiastic fan cheers for an electrifying scene. Returning to Malaysia after a decade, Sammi confessed that what she missed most were the fans, “and also the warmth of Malaysia, which always makes me feel at home and very happy.” When asked about local cuisine, she immediately named durian and bak kut teh. Although her schedule was tight and she hadn't had the chance to enjoy them yet, she joked: “No matter what, I’ll squeeze in a bit of time later to eat.”

Talking about her role as the dominant female CEO 'Sister V' in the film, she revealed that she specially added a mole at the corner of her mouth and spent a lot of time styling her large wavy hair before each shoot. “That hairstyle really takes a long time to set; those two front strands in particular took forever, but for the character, I was willing and happy to do it. The most important thing is to look pretty!” The host then asked the crowd, “Is Sammi pretty or what?” The fans shouted loudly, “Pretty!” “So pretty!” She became shy yet delighted, unable to stop smiling, and playfully raised her orchid fingers while laughing: “Upper floor audience, a bit louder please!” The whole venue then shouted again, “So darn pretty!” making her feel even more elated.

She did not forget to urge everyone to support the movie: “On February 16th, you must watch 'King of the Night', and you can watch it again after that. In April, come back to my concert!” She then added cheekily, “But the concert tickets are already sold out.” Her tone was both proud and adorable.

At the meeting, Ray Wu also congratulated Fish Liew for her nomination for Best Actress at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards, calling for the audience to applaud and cheer her on. Sammi Cheng gave her a big hug from behind, to which Fish Liew delightedly said: “I was nominated just for this hug!” She then hugged back tightly, joking, “Just hold me!” Ray Wu then led the whole crowd to shout, “Congratulations, Ah Fish!” Fish Liew was visibly moved. She said being part of “King of the Night” was a big blessing to her. “I’m truly grateful to be able to join this team, to know everyone, and to act opposite Sammi. To be able to bring such a good work back home for everyone to see.”

As for Jace Chan, who played the nightclub hostess Mickey in the film, she laughed and said, “I’m Sister V’s ‘first horse’, so of course I was influenced by her aura—I became more imposing; even my walk had flair.”
