The Thai military accused Cambodia on the 29th of violating the ceasefire agreement, but said it is still striving to arrange a meeting between frontline commanders of both sides.
As part of the ceasefire agreement, the meeting between frontline commanders was scheduled to take place at 10:00 a.m.
Thai Army spokesman Suwari issued a statement on the morning of the 29th, saying that the Thai side immediately ceased fire along the Thai-Cambodian border as soon as the agreement came into effect. However, after the agreement's implementation, the Cambodian side continued to use weapons to attack Thai territory at multiple locations.
The statement pointed out that the Thai side found it necessary to take appropriate countermeasures within the scope of legitimate self-defense.
The military said that after the ceasefire at midnight on the 28th, one area along the border was harassed by the Cambodian side, and both sides exchanged fire again, which lasted until dawn. Another area also saw fighting, which continued until 5:30 a.m. local time on the 29th.
Earlier on the same day, the Thai military had posted on social media saying that all areas along the Thai-Cambodian border had achieved a ceasefire.
In any case, Cambodian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Marie Sujieta said on the morning of the 29th that the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand has come to an end.
At a press conference, she said that after the leaders of both countries agreed to a ceasefire, armed conflict in the disputed border areas had ended.
She said: "A positive result is that there is no more exchange of fire in any military area."
She pointed out that frontline commanders of both sides will hold an informal meeting on the morning of the 29th to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
