(Kuching, 28th) Cahya Mata Sarawak is advancing three major projects that will have significant positive impacts on Sarawak’s economic landscape and surrounding communities.
Cahya Mata Group CEO Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib stated last night (27th) at the “Cahya Mata Media Night” in Kuching that one of the projects is the RM673 million “Mambong Clinker Line 2” plan.
He said: “The opening of this new plant will increase our annual production capacity from 900,000 tons to 1.9 million tons. This will not only completely replace the need to import clinker, but will also ensure a stable and reliable cement supply for Sarawak to meet the soaring local demand.
“The plant adopts advanced technology and highly efficient operating systems, greatly reducing its overall carbon footprint. Construction has already commenced and it is expected to be completed by mid-2027.”
The second project is the RM550 million “Borneo Convention Centre Kuching Phase 2” (BCCK 2).
“Once completed, BCCK 2 can accommodate up to 9,500 people, nearly double the capacity of the existing BCCK 1. With the number of international conferences hosted by Sarawak on the rise, BCCK 2 will serve as an important catalyst for driving the state’s economy.”
Sulaiman also pointed out that the power supply for the Cahya Mata Phosphates plant has been reconnected, enabling it to carry out testing and commissioning before commercial operations.
“This facility will become the first phosphates plant in the region to mainly use renewable energy, with the capability to produce yellow phosphorus, industrial-grade phosphoric acid, and food-grade phosphoric acid (FGA) with up to 99.9% purity.”
He noted that these three major projects reflect Cahya Mata’s continued commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across its operations, business, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.
Additionally, the company actively supports community initiatives, such as planting native tree species in the Sabal Forest Reserve through the “Tree Planting Day” initiative, and assisting in refurbishing the Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah Kuching, providing children with a safer and more comfortable living environment.
Meanwhile, Sulaiman also thanked the media for serving as a reliable source of information and playing a vital role in educating and informing the public. He pointed out that the longstanding strategic partnership between the media and Cahya Mata enables the company to effectively communicate information to society and stakeholders.
“Here, I sincerely thank the media for their long-term support, helping Cahya Mata build connections with the wider community and present our efforts and achievements to the public and shareholders.”
