(Kuching, 13th) Kuching police have arrested a 67-year-old local man suspected of brandishing a firearm and threatening others on Bako Road on the 11th (Thursday) of this month.
According to the Kuching District Police Headquarters' Facebook page, the victim, a 24-year-old man, was working at a construction site on Bako Road at the time. The suspect, who was emotionally agitated, approached the victim carrying a shotgun and ordered him and his colleagues to immediately stop work. He then fired two shots into the air, warning them to remove their heavy machinery from the site.
The police stated that the victim and his colleagues were carrying out land clearance with approval from the Public Works Department, and the victim himself was merely a heavy machinery operator, with no knowledge of compensation issues. The incident occurred in a wooded area undergoing road construction and clearance.
The suspect is currently in custody to assist police investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 39 of the Arms Act 1960. Police remind the public to resolve issues through proper channels and to avoid taking actions that endanger their own safety.
