(Washington, 11th) The US Central Command said that US and partner nation forces have carried out large-scale strikes against targets belonging to the extremist group "Islamic State (ISIS)" inside Syria.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the US Central Command released a statement on social media on Saturday (January 10) saying that this is part of the "Operation Falcon Strike" launched by the US in December last year. The accompanying video shows multiple fighter jets and attack aircraft taking off in the night, and several ground targets being destroyed.

Central Command spokesperson Hawkins said that more than 20 aircraft participated in the airstrikes, deploying more than 90 precision-guided munitions and striking over 35 targets. The statement did not reveal the number of casualties.

On December 13 last year, while the Syrian transitional government security forces and US troops were conducting a joint patrol near Palmyra in the central Syrian province of Homs, they came under fire. Two US soldiers and one American civilian working as a translator were killed, and three other US soldiers were injured. The gunman was from the "Islamic State" and was killed in the exchange of fire. On the same day, December 13, the US launched the "Operation Falcon Strike" in Syria, aiming to eliminate "Islamic State" militants, infrastructure, and weapons depots.
