(Miri, 9th) — A vacant wooden house in Phase 6 of the Tudan Desaras Resettlement Area in Miri caught fire last night, with the entire house being engulfed in flames in a short period. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident.
According to the report from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station of Sarawak Zone 6, the incident happened at 8:40pm on July 8th (Tuesday), at Harmoni 1C Lane, Tudan Desaras Resettlement Area Phase 6. After receiving a report from the public, the fire department promptly deployed fire engines and personnel to the scene.
The fire truck arrived at 8:48pm and found the house, a non-permanent structure approximately 20 feet by 55 feet, already fully engulfed in flames. As no one was inside, the firefighters immediately began extinguishing the fire, using water from the fire engine's tank and hydrant. The fire was brought under control by 9:10pm, and the entire operation concluded at 10:05pm.

This operation was commanded by PBK II Mohd Faizul from Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station, and was also supported by Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station. In total, two fire engines and many firefighters participated in the firefighting operation. Other involved units included the police (PDRM), Sarawak Energy, and the Civil Defense Force (APM).
After inspection upon completion of the operation, it was confirmed that the house was 100% destroyed by the fire, but no casualties occurred. According to information provided by local residents, the burned house was vacant, the actual owner was not present, and the specific ownership could not yet be confirmed. The site has since been cordoned off and handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation of the cause of the fire.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department urges the public to raise fire safety awareness, especially ensuring the electrical safety of vacant or unoccupied houses to prevent fire incidents.
