(Bandar Seri Begawan, 25th) Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism is honored to host the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) 38th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference (APRC) for the first time.

This annual conference serves as an official platform for agricultural ministers, the FAO Director-General, and senior officials from 46 member countries to discuss food security issues and strengthen regional cooperation.

The meeting coincides with the 80th anniversary of the FAO and provides Brunei with a strategic opportunity to showcase its unique traditions, local products, and developments in the agricultural sector, while also strengthening cooperation networks at both regional and global levels.

The ministerial meeting was chaired by Abdul Manaf. During the meeting, he emphasized that the presence of ministers from various countries reflects a shared commitment to strengthening food security and promoting sustainable agri-food systems.

He pointed out that global challenges are becoming increasingly complex, including climate variability and supply chain disruptions, issues which require practical, innovative, and integrated solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These efforts are vital for building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agri-food systems to safeguard the well-being of future generations.

The main topics discussed at the conference included policy and regulatory matters, financing and investment, strategic foresight, as well as promoting ‘farm-to-market’ initiatives by coordinating plant health and food safety standards.

The 38th APRC ministerial meeting was held in the form of a ministerial roundtable, encouraging heads of delegations to engage in interactive dialogue and directly share their experiences. One of the key themes was “Promoting Sustainable Bioeconomy Approaches in Asia and the Pacific Region.”

The conference provided an opportunity for ministers from various countries to discuss how to accelerate agri-food systems transformation through innovation, technical cooperation, and inclusive policies.

This meeting aims to deepen understanding and strengthen the spirit of cooperation among member countries. Hosting the meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan is seen as a key step towards advancing the transformation of agri-food systems to become more resilient and sustainable.

The Brunei government expresses its high appreciation for this, and looks forward to ensuring that all achievements are translated into tangible impacts on the well-being of the people through collaboration in various areas, thus securing food security for the entire region.

The ministerial meeting lasts for two days. As part of the event, a welcome dinner hosted by Tarindak D'seni was specially arranged for international ministers and delegations, to show respect and gratitude. In addition, guided tours were organized to provide delegates with deeper insights into Brunei's unique charm and developmental achievements.
