Close Call at Mount Dukono: Seven Singaporean Hikers Escape Danger

A sudden eruption occurred at Mount Dukono in North Halmahera, North Maluku province, Indonesia. Of the 20 hikers originally on the mountain, seven Singaporean hikers managed to escape, and a total of 14 people have been confirmed rescued and safe.

The North Halmahera Disaster Management Agency stated on Friday (May 8) that there were 20 hikers on the mountain at the time of the incident, including 9 Singaporeans and the rest local residents.

Authorities have initially confirmed that half of the 14 rescued are from Singapore. The seven Singaporean hikers who successfully escaped are: T.Y.M.E (30, male), O.S.S (37, female), P.L (33, female), L.H.E.I (31, female), T.J.Y.G (30, female), L.Y.X.V (30, female), and L.S.D (29, male).

Earlier reports quoted police sources as saying there may be two fatalities, but the disaster management agency later clarified that no deaths have currently been confirmed.

Authorities noted that two foreign hikers remain missing, specifically H.W.Q.T (30, male) and S.M.B.A.H (27, male). Search and rescue operations are still ongoing.
