US President Trump stated on the 5th that he "must personally participate" in selecting Iran's next leader.
In a phone interview with the American news website Axios, he said he would not accept the son of Iran's late Supreme Leader Khamenei serving as Iran's new leader.
He stated, "I must personally participate in the appointment."
Trump also warned that if Iran produces a new leader who "continues Khamenei's policies," it would force the US "back into war within five years."
According to Iranian opposition media Iran International, Khamenei's son Mojtaba has been elected as Iran's next Supreme Leader, succeeding his late father.
However, several media outlets including the Iranian News Agency reported on the 4th that Iran has determined several candidates for Supreme Leader, and the new Supreme Leader will soon be chosen from among them.
