The city of Hat Yai and surrounding areas in southern Thailand have been hit by floods, with authorities expecting the death toll to exceed 100.

According to Thai media Khoasodg, as floodwaters in Hat Yai and surrounding areas of Songkhla Province gradually recede, Thai police disclosed that as of 8:30 p.m. on the 27th, a total of 104 bodies had been sent for identification. These bodies are from various hospitals and disaster areas in Songkhla Province and its vicinity.

The figure of 104 exceeds the previously announced official count of 85. Police stated that the urgent task is to distinguish between bodies sent from hospitals and the 47 bodies found directly by rescue teams in disaster zones. The latter need detailed forensic examination to determine whether the cause of death was pre-existing illness or directly due to the flood.

According to Xinhua News Agency, a spokesperson for the Thai Prime Minister's Office said earlier on the 27th that the recent flooding has caused 55 deaths in Songkhla Province, southern Thailand.

Spokesperson Siripong said at a press conference in the afternoon of the 27th that, based on data provided by Prince of Songkla University Hospital in the province, 55 fatalities from the flood have been recorded in Songkhla. Currently, the Thai Ministry of Public Health is working with local agencies to confirm the number of affected people.

Southern Thailand has been hit by continuous rain and flooding in recent days, with Songkhla Province the worst affected. On the 25th, the Thai government declared a state of emergency in the province.
