Pei Min Students Demonstrate Responsibility and Courage Yu Xiaoshan: Charity Sale is Educational Practice

(Miri, 7th) Miri Mayor and Pujut State Assemblyman Yu Xiaoshan stated that education is not only about textbook knowledge, but also about life practice. The charity sale allows everyone to see how students spread love through hard work, which is the true meaning of education.
She expressed this in her speech as the guest of honor this morning at Pei Min Middle School’s 2025 “Pei Zhong in Our Hearts” charity sale, held in the school hall.
She said that the charity sale is not only a fundraising event, but also a vivid educational lesson, allowing students to turn classroom knowledge into practical action and to demonstrate responsibility, commitment, and courage.
She mentioned that during the charity sale, students learned about design, publicity and marketing, which demonstrated the 'application of knowledge'; in teamwork, they supported each other, showing 'responsibility and commitment'; when facing challenges and persevering, it is the best proof of 'resilience and courage.' These are invaluable assets hard to obtain in the classroom.

She also reminded students that while grades are important, character is even more crucial. Kindness, a sense of responsibility, team spirit, and innovative ability are the core objectives of education, and this charity sale perfectly reflects the spirit of Pei Min students, who know how to learn and care, pursue knowledge, and grow.
Yu Xiaoshan pointed out that the success of the charity sale is inseparable from the far-sighted support of the board of directors, the hard work of teachers, the active participation of students, as well as the cooperation of parents and all sectors of society. The unity of "board, teaching staff, and students" is the key to the continuous progress and vibrant energy of independent schools.
She especially thanked the Sarawak government for their long-term emphasis and support for independent Chinese school education, not only by providing funding but also by reflecting fairness and inclusivity in policies. This not only affirms the educational value of independent schools but also demonstrates Sarawak’s spirit of multicultural inclusion and shared progress.
She said that schools, families, and the government are the three pillars of education — only by working closely together can we create a better growth environment for children.
Yu Xiaoshan looks forward to students growing into knowledgeable, loving, and responsible youths of the new era under the nurturing of the school, and contributing to Sarawak and the nation.
