(Kuching, 7th) The public is urged to stop spreading false information that could threaten national security.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that with advances in artificial intelligence technologies such as 'deepfakes', an increasing amount of misinformation is spreading on social media.
He cited an incident in neighboring Indonesia as an example. The initial protests there were peaceful, but as facts became distorted—with false information and inciteful rhetoric mixed in—they eventually escalated into large-scale riots.
“The original story was true, but later half-truths and false information were added, angering the public. When people become angry, they start protesting. Peaceful protests can turn into non-peaceful protests. We must avoid such situations because our country needs to remain a peaceful and stable nation.”
“When our country is peaceful and stable, we can manage the nation well and improve the economy. When the economic situation is good, many investors will come in, and job opportunities will increase as well.”
He said this yesterday while speaking at the 2025 Sarawak Segulai Sejalai Youth Tour event.
As the MP for Petra Jaya, he further called on young people to improve their knowledge and skills, and to apply them in daily life to achieve positive goals.
“Do not spread negative messages that could damage interpersonal relationships.”
