SARIKEI: An application has been submitted through the Sarikei Division Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) to carry out maintenance works and redirect water flow in several key areas affected by drainage issues.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the proposed works are aimed at addressing problems such as stagnant water, blocked drainage systems and ineffective water flow that have disrupted the lives of local residents.

“This effort is part of our ongoing commitment to improve basic infrastructure, particularly in suburban and rural areas,” Huang said in a press statement today.

Huang is the MP for Sarikei and assemblyman for Repok.

The Sarikei Parliamentary Service Centre team, accompanied by officers from JPS Sarikei, recently conducted site visits to assess the actual conditions on the ground.

The findings from these visits will be used to formulate a more effective and targeted action plan.

Among the locations identified are Jalan Ming Chiang Sungai Meradong, Jalan Bunga Raya, Jalan Bakong/Meradong Sungai Tekam, Jalan Chung Fung (rear section of Siew Bakong), Jalan Sing Hua Sungai Bakong, Jalan Rumah Rendu anak China Sungai Mawan, Jalan Sing Hock KJD, and Jalan Rumah Adiah anak Bungai Sungai Ulu Mador.

Local residents have expressed appreciation for Huang’s continued efforts in advocating for infrastructure improvements in their area.

Many also thanked him for listening to their concerns and working to secure allocations to resolve long-standing issues.
