(Seremban, 5th) St. George School recently held a two-day, one-night 'Primary School Leadership Camp' at Sun Bilin Eco Village in the East Long District, themed 'Learn, Lead, Grow.' The camp recognized the contributions of class officers and focused on helping students transform knowledge into practical leadership and teamwork abilities.
At the opening ceremony, Principal Janidi Kingan delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing that true leadership stems from character building and the cultivation of empathy. This year’s leadership camp advocated the philosophy of 'Transformation over Indoctrination' and used 'Don't Just Wear the Badge, Be the Bridge' as its guiding principle, encouraging students to exert a positive influence.
Mr. Chen Yuk-Chee, Head of Primary and camp organizer, stated that the camp curriculum was carefully designed to establish the necessary mental and emotional foundations for young leaders, helping them develop confidence and assume leadership responsibilities with integrity.
The first day of activities was themed 'Jungle Immersion.' Student leaders ventured deep into the East Long rainforest to learn survival skills such as building shelters and traditional fishing. They also hiked to explore the rainforest, learning to identify medicinal herbs and edible plants. Cultural experience activities like cooking bamboo chicken and practicing blowpipe archery further enriched students’ understanding of local traditions.
The second day focused on 'Growth and Teamwork,' with students engaging in hands-on learning by planting lemongrass and participating in a variety of creative team challenge activities to enhance strategic thinking and teamwork skills.
The school expressed gratitude to Vice Principal Luxman and the organizing committee for their meticulous planning and logistic arrangements, which created a safe and inspiring learning environment for all participants.
At the closing ceremony, School Board Chairman Lau Weng Keong delivered a motivating speech, encouraging students to face future challenges with resilience and integrity.
The school noted that the leadership camp successfully achieved its goals, not only uncovering students’ leadership potential but also fostering a growth mindset and enhancing their sense of responsibility towards cultural heritage and environmental protection.
After two days of learning and experience, participants returned to campus with stronger team spirit and renewed confidence, well-prepared to embrace future challenges on their paths of learning and growth.
