(Bandar Seri Begawan, 4th) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei has announced a new round of cabinet reshuffle and emphasized that Brunei is currently at a crucial implementation stage of realizing the Brunei Vision 2035. He stated that future success depends on wisdom and determination, the rise of a new generation of leadership, as well as unity and shared responsibility among cabinet members.
His Majesty made the remarks this afternoon via Brunei Radio Television, stating that this cabinet reshuffle involves several major changes, including the appointment of several members of the royal family into the cabinet, with full consideration given to their interests, abilities, and preliminary experience in the government administrative system.
His Majesty pointed out that, to strengthen cross-ministerial coordination within the government, he has specially approved the addition of three coordinating ministerial positions.
Among them, the Minister for National Security Coordination is responsible for coordinating and strengthening interdepartmental efforts to safeguard national security; the Minister for Economic Policy Coordination is responsible for promoting economic diversification and development in key sectors; while the Minister for Social Policy and Human Resources Coordination is responsible for coordinating national social policy, human capital development, employment, welfare, and community well-being matters.
At the same time, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism has also been reorganized and renamed as the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to accelerate the development of priority industries, strengthen economic diversification measures, ensure sustained national economic growth, and create more high-quality job opportunities.
His Majesty stated that some current ministers will continue serving in their current posts to ensure policy continuity and governance stability. Meanwhile, some deputy ministers have been promoted to ministers, and three new deputy ministers have been appointed to bring new thinking and fresh perspectives to the government.
According to the new cabinet list, His Majesty the Sultan will continue to concurrently serve as Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Minister of Defence, and Minister of Finance.
The Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah has been appointed as Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Deputy Chairman of the Brunei Vision 2035 Supreme Council.
Prince Abdul Malik has been appointed as Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and concurrently as Chairman of the Sultan Foundation.
Prince Abdul Mateen has been appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs, while continuing his involvement in military affairs, and will play an important role in promoting national economic growth, trade cooperation, foreign relations, and international investment.
With regard to the coordinating ministers: Pehin Halbi has been appointed as Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister of Defence, and concurrently as National Security Coordinating Minister; Dato Manaf as Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and concurrently as Economic Policy Coordinating Minister; and Dato Amardin as Minister for Social Policy and Human Resources Coordination and concurrently as Minister of Home Affairs.
