(Bandar Seri Begawan, 18th) The Lifelong Learning Centre (L3C), under the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Manpower Planning Office (MPO) under the Prime Minister's Office, recently successfully held the Annual Lifelong Learning Industry Collaboration (ALLIED) Forum at a hotel.
The forum brought together over 100 participants, including representatives from government agencies, private enterprises, and training institutions.
This year’s ALLIED Forum, themed “Building Brunei’s Future Together: Co-investing in Talent and National Prosperity,” emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in workforce development.
The aim of this year’s forum was to encourage various industries to view employee training as a strategic investment, actively support employee upskilling, and contribute to the national training ecosystem, in alignment with Brunei Vision 2035.
Dr. Chin Wei Chean, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, attended the forum as the guest of honor and delivered the opening address.
In his opening speech, he highlighted the crucial role of employee training in cultivating an efficient, adaptable, and future-oriented workforce.
He emphasized that human capital remains one of the nation’s most valuable assets, and continual investment in skills development is essential for long-term economic resilience and competitiveness.
The morning agenda included a panel discussion moderated by Allen Lai, Managing Director of Confer Sdn Bhd, as well as an industry-sharing session titled “National Training Institution Perspective: Malaysia’s Industry-Driven Workforce Development Model,” delivered by Dr. Rony Ambrose Gobilee, Chief Strategy Officer of Malaysia’s Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp).
Other highlights of the event included a panel discussion with participants such as Lim Ming Soon, CEO of 4GTechnologies Network Integrity Assurance Company; Harina Ramlee, Corporate Services Manager of Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad; and Afero Eswandy Mohamad, Acting CEO of Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF).
The invited panelists shared perspectives and best practices on workforce development, industry involvement, and the role of lifelong learning in supporting organizational growth and national priorities.
This meeting provided a platform for constructive exchange of ideas between industry stakeholders and panelists.
The discussions covered investment in training and explored practical considerations for sustaining workforce development efforts in the long term. The second workshop, "From Skills Demand to Training Delivery: Strengthening Coordination among Industry, Training Institutions, and Lifelong Learning Centre," explored ways to strengthen the alignment between industry needs and training supply to ensure skill development programs remain relevant and responsive.
The ALLIED Forum continues to play an important platform role, aiming to strengthen partnerships among the government, industry, and training institutions, and advance lifelong learning initiatives to support Brunei’s long-term socio-economic development.
