(Bandar Seri Begawan, 12th) The University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD), through its flagship program ‘Global Discovery Programme’ (GDP) and under the guidance of the Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor (Global Affairs), has grandly launched a four-week short-term exchange program in collaboration with the University of Western Australia (UWA), welcoming 11 UWA undergraduate students to Brunei for a meaningful academic and cultural exchange.
This program, commencing on November 16, 2025, aims to provide UWA students with an immersive experience that combines practical learning, cross-cultural understanding, and in-depth knowledge of Brunei’s rich heritage, culture, and biodiversity.
This program marks the first-ever cooperation between UBD and UWA. The participation of UWA students demonstrates both institutions’ shared commitment to promoting student mobility, strengthening academic connections, and cultivating global citizenship.

During the four-week course, students participated in interactive academic classes offered by various UBD faculties, including the Institute of Research, Faculty of Science, and Language Centre. These courses are complemented by carefully curated cultural activities and field trips, including a Malay martial arts workshop organized by the Student Affairs Section.
Through these academic and cultural activities, the Global Discovery Programme (GDP) continues to showcase UBD’s unique strengths by providing international students with rich and meaningful experiences.
At the opening ceremony, Rosna, Deputy Director of the Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor (Global Affairs) at UBD, emphasized: "Through the Global Discovery Programme, we aim to provide international students with immersive learning opportunities, enabling them to gain deeper insights into Brunei’s culture, traditions, environment, and language."
Associate Professor Yu Tao of the Faculty of Social Sciences at UWA expressed gratitude for UBD’s warm hospitality, and highlighted that the program offers UWA students a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of Brunei’s cultural heritage.
The Global Discovery Programme (GDP) is UBD’s flagship inbound exchange initiative, aiming to provide international students with opportunities for experiential academic learning and cultural immersion in Brunei.
