Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi said that the soon-to-be-established Malaysian Media Council is expected to become an optimal platform for resolving various sensitive issues involving media institutions.

He mentioned that the recent controversy regarding the error in the depiction of the national flag by Sin Chew Daily is an example of such issues.

“We hope that once the Malaysian Media Council is established, it will become an appropriate platform to resolve such issues. However, while we await the establishment of this council, let us handle this matter first.”

“Colleagues, the Deputy Minister of Communications (Teo Nie Ching) and Secretary General (Datuk Mohd Fauzi) have met with the management of this media institution, and we have informed them that the enforcement agency is conducting an investigation.”

Fahmi, who is also the spokesperson for the Unity Government, said this to the media during the weekly press conference held today (17th) at the Broadcasting Tower.

On another note, Fahmi stated that the Tun Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) will organize a briefing session for all media institutions to ensure that they adhere to the established norms when using the image of the Jalur Gemilang (Stripes of Glory).

“This briefing session is expected to be held within the next two weeks, solely to avoid any errors that could tarnish the image of the Stripes of Glory.”

“All media personnel with journalist credentials, the minister's press secretaries, and corporate public relations officers are required to attend this briefing session.”
