A restaurant was found using air conditioner condensate water to soak mushrooms and vermicelli, sparking public outcry. Authorities have now confirmed the incident and have ordered the restaurant to suspend operations for rectification.
A Chinese netizen posted a video on social media, showing a pipe extending from a wall outside the restaurant continuously dripping water into a bucket, with unidentified objects inside the bucket. On both sides of the bucket were containers soaking food ingredients.
The netizen stated that this restaurant, located in Ganyu District, Lianyungang City, Jiangsu, China, was using air conditioning condensate to soak vermicelli, which triggered online debate, with many believing the restaurant was disregarding customers' health.
The Ganyu District Market Supervision Bureau in Lianyungang City stated that the business in question, “Jidongjia Braised Pot Rice,” is a delivery-only restaurant with no dine-in service and holds a business license and small restaurant registration. Investigation found that the situation shown in the video was basically true; the restaurant soaked ingredients with tap water, but had also placed the condensate pipe into the soaking bucket.
The Market Supervision Bureau has issued a notice ordering the restaurant to suspend operations for rectification, sealed and sampled the ingredients in the store, and delisted its products from online delivery platforms.
