Wallace Huo Drastically Lowers His Fee for a Role; Key Reason Behind 'Nearly 8 Million Less' Revealed

The web series "Why Is He Still Single," starring Wallace Huo and Zhu Zhu, is adapted from the classic Japanese drama "The Man Who Can't Get Married" starring Hiroshi Abe. The series has 16 episodes and has sparked quite a bit of discussion since its release. According to Hong Kong media reports, unlike receiving 20 million RMB (about 11.68 million MYR) for "The Tale of Rose," Wallace Huo only accepted 5 million RMB (about 2.92 million MYR) for "Why Is He Still Single," which is over 60 million TWD (about 7.91 million MYR) less. It is rumored that he agreed to lower his asking price because he liked the script.

In addition, some Chinese netizens have dug up that Wallace Huo previously earned up to 72 million RMB (about 42.04 million MYR) for "Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace." The combined pay for him and female lead Zhou Xun amounted to about 170 million RMB (about 99.26 million MYR), which once drew criticism from CCTV for the astronomical salaries of celebrities. In 2017, authorities issued a salary cap policy, requiring that all actors’ total remuneration must not exceed 40% of the total production cost, effectively curbing sky-high salaries. The reduction in Wallace Huo's fee for "The Man Who Can't Get Married" may also be related to this salary cap.
