(Bandar Seri Begawan, 30th) Yang Dezhen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chung Hwa Middle School in Brunei, stated that today, we gather at the Hall of Peace to witness the inauguration and oath-taking ceremony of the new Board of Directors (2026-2028) of Chung Hwa Middle School, Brunei. First of all, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to express my sincerest gratitude to Legislative Council member Mr. Lau Siu Tak Kok for taking time out of his busy schedule to preside over and witness this ceremony!
He feels deeply honored to serve once again as Chairman. This trust profoundly touches him and makes him feel the enormous responsibility. In the coming three years, he will work wholeheartedly with all board members to drive the development of the school and live up to everyone’s expectations.
This morning, Yang Dezhen delivered remarks at the inauguration and oath-taking ceremony of the (2026-2028) Board of Directors of Chung Hwa Middle School (CHMS), held at the Hall of Peace.
He said that in the 104 years since the founding of CHMS, every step of progress and each forward move could not have been achieved without the strenuous efforts of past boards, principals, and teachers, and have always carried the care and support of all caring people from various sectors of society. As a non-profit Chinese school with over a century of history, we are deeply aware of the heavy responsibility on our shoulders and we always keep the original aspiration and mission of education firmly in mind.
Next, the new Board of Directors will focus on advancing the following areas of work:
First, keeping up with the times and cultivating patriotic citizens.
We will actively align with the national "Wawasan 2035" vision and the 21st-century education system, nurturing students to become good citizens who are loyal to the country and contribute to society.
Second, elevating teaching quality and caring for student growth.
We aim to bring artificial intelligence (AI) into the classroom, using lively and interactive methods to help students understand the basic principles and application scenarios of AI, cultivate computational thinking and digital literacy, and encourage them to combine technical learning with humanistic care, thinking about how to create miracles with technology and serve society in real-life contexts.
Third, strengthening cooperation and building a high-quality campus together.
We will work hand-in-hand with parents, the community, and technology partners to create a warm and high-quality learning environment for our children. We hope that while embracing technology, they will also maintain care for others and grow to become a new generation of innovative and responsible youths.
He said that this board welcomes several new directors who are full of enthusiasm and dynamism. He believes that through the concerted cooperation of all directors, the principal and teachers, CHMS will certainly be able to progress steadily and achieve new heights.
He concluded by thanking Legislative Council member Mr. Lau Siu Tak Kok again for presiding over the oath-taking as well as all caring individuals from society who support Chung Hwa Middle School! Let us work together, hand in hand, for the future of CHMS and for the future of our children!
