Hong Kong film Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, starring Louis Koo, Sammo Hung, Richie Jen, Raymond Lam, Philip Keung, and Aaron Kwok, has grossed over HK$100 million (about RM50.42 million) in Hong Kong and swept 9 awards at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards. Last year, a sequel was announced; it was rumored that Japanese actor Takuya Kimura was invited to join, but was replaced due to tensions between China and Japan.
Expanding into the Japanese market
According to Sing Tao Daily, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In successfully entered the Japanese market, achieving an impressive box office of ¥500 million (about RM12.5 million). In October last year, it was announced that two sequels are being prepared: Twilight of the Warriors: Dragon Head and Twilight of the Warriors: Final Chapter. Takuya Kimura agreed to take part in the sequel last year, had received the script, and began secret training in preparation for an epic fight scene with Aaron Kwok.
However, due to ongoing tensions between China and Japan, after much consideration, the production team of the sequel had no choice but to reluctantly terminate their collaboration with Takuya Kimura. Kimura was said to feel helpless about the decision, but both parties ultimately reached a peaceful consensus. Rumors also suggest that the production team has invited Daniel Wu, who is actively working in Hollywood, to join the cast.
