(Kuching, 29th) Driven by the Sarawak state government's implementation of the 'Free Higher Education Program', the student enrollment numbers at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus are expected to continue rising, enabling more Sarawakians to have access to university education.
The university’s board chairman, Datuk Amar Jaul Samion, pointed out that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the campus’s founding, with student numbers growing from just 130 in 2000 to around 4,500 today, representing a remarkable achievement.
“This milestone reflects the outstanding accomplishments of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus in advancing higher education and nurturing talents for Sarawak. We are looking forward to welcoming more outstanding young Sarawakians to our campus, where they will learn and grow, and become new forces driving the future of Sarawak and beyond.” He delivered this speech at the university’s 25th anniversary dinner on Tuesday (October 28).
He added that Swinburne Sarawak Campus is driving Sarawak’s transformation towards a high-income, technology-driven economy through its graduates, covering key areas such as energy, engineering, digital technology, creative industries, and enterprise innovation.
Looking to the future, Jaul reaffirmed that the university will continue its dedication to academic excellence, expanding research capabilities, and cultivating graduates with adaptability and skills to meet the challenges of an increasingly digital and sustainable economic environment.
