Veteran Taiwanese actor Chen Guang-qian, known for his roles in 'David Loman' and 'Super Troopers: Motorcycle Captain', has been reported dead at his residence at the age of 55. Police revealed that at around 9 a.m. on the 19th, they received a report from a friend stating that they had been unable to contact him for several days and feared something had happened. Police and firefighters arrived on the scene, and because the front door was tightly locked, they forced entry. Upon entering the house, they found Chen Guang-qian lying on the living room floor with no signs of life.
Police investigations found that all doors and windows in the house were intact, with no signs of external force or a struggle; initial findings ruled out homicide. The family has taken over related matters and is unwilling to discuss further details. He lived alone and had faded from the entertainment scene in recent years, but continued to run a business selling Buddhist amulets via Facebook. It is reported that he had suffered from severe mental health issues.
In addition to his work in film and television, he was also known for a previous high-profile incident seven years ago when he accused fellow actor Chen Guan-lin of not paying his bill at a nightclub. However, the court found there was no evidence, and Chen Guang-qian was instead sentenced to four months in prison, commutable to a fine of 120,000 Taiwan dollars (approximately 16,000 ringgit). In 2019, he allegedly crossed a barrier and jumped into the Tamsui River, but was rescued by emergency personnel and brought back safely. Regarding his sudden passing, 'David Loman' director Kevin Chu said: 'Very surprised, haven't been in touch for a long time.'
