The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority issued a statement on the 25th, saying that the Thai military had used internationally banned cluster munitions in border areas inside Cambodian territory.
The statement said that the cluster munitions used by the Thai military in Preah Vihear Province, Cambodia, posed a “direct and indiscriminate” threat to civilians, deminers, and communities. “This act is a serious violation of international humanitarian norms.”
Senior official Ly Thuch of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority stated that the use of cluster munitions in or near border areas where civilians reside is an unacceptable “escalation,” and “completely disregards human life, humanitarian principles, and regional peace.”
