The Thai National Security Council has approved a project to build a fence along the Thai-Cambodian border in order to address the increasingly serious cross-border crime and security issues.

The Nation newspaper reported on the 3rd that the Thai military is in charge of the project, including determining construction areas, technical specifications, and fence designs suitable for the terrain and strategic needs of each area.

The project is divided into three parts. First, a permanent fence about 23.6 kilometers long will be built in the undisputed area of Sa Kaeo Province, equipped with a modern CCTV monitoring system to form an "electronic fence." Surveillance cameras will be installed in sensitive areas for round-the-clock monitoring to strengthen border security and prevent illegal activities.

Second, permanent fences with electronic monitoring systems will be constructed in border areas agreed upon by both Thailand and Cambodia.

Third, in areas where the boundary is not yet demarcated, triple barbed wire and other temporary facilities will be set up for patrolling and logistics support.

The report said that the Thai government, military, and the public support the construction of the fence, especially communities affected by border conflicts, who have expressed strong support for the project. They believe the fence is a practical solution to their daily security challenges. In addition to government funding, Thai civil foundations and many citizens are willing to provide financial support to ensure the project is completed as soon as possible.
