Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar stated that he will never allow any party in the defense sector to be involved in corruption or abuse of power.
He noted that such behavior not only betrays the trust given by the people but also undermines the safety and peace of the country.
“I do not care how powerful or how high your status is, I will not allow it, because it sacrifices, betrays, and undermines our national defense system. I will not stand by and will strive to clean up these issues to the best of my ability.”
He mentioned that a transparent procurement system must be established to prevent such issues from continuing.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the need to correct the trend of amassing national wealth for personal gain.
“In our country's governance and management system, how can we on one hand ask a person earning RM3000 a month to donate RM100, while on the other hand do nothing about the wealthy who steal billions of ringgit, due to various political, economic, or sympathetic reasons?”
Anwar made these remarks today while officiating the launch of the 2025 National Islamic Charity Month.
He also announced that the government has, in principle, agreed to allocate RM35 million to promote Malaysia's Islamic endowment (wakaf) ecosystem.
He stated that out of this, RM30 million will be used to support the myWaqafPTPTN program, and another RM5 million will be used to establish the National Islamic Endowment Capital Ltd (PWNB).
“This Islamic Endowment Education Scholarship will be jointly managed by the Malaysian Islamic Endowment Foundation and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN). In addition, RM5 million will be used as seed capital for the establishment of the National Islamic Endowment Capital Ltd.”
The myWaqafPTPTN program was launched last year, and the RM30 million announced this time is a new allocation by the government this year, aimed at assisting university students from the Muslim beneficiaries (asnaf), M40, and B40 groups.
Additionally, the RM5 million is intended to establish PWNB (formerly known as the National Islamic Endowment Institution Ltd) for the more effective management of larger-scale charitable funds, thus promoting the development of Islamic social finance, including Islamic endowment, Islamic treasury (baitulmal), and Islamic charity (zakat).
