(Miri, 5th) Lian Lyu Secondary School Joint Board Chairman Dato' Sri Liu Jiujian stated that running an educational institution is not an easy task, but as an undertaking that lasts for generations, it requires the unity of the team and unwavering perseverance to achieve continual improvement.
Liu Jiujian made these remarks in his speech last night at the Lian Lyu Secondary School 2026 Chinese New Year Lion Dance Appreciation Banquet, held at Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club.
He expressed his gratitude to successive boards, teachers, and alumni for their dedication over the years — working selflessly day in and day out, contributing to the school's development. They have successfully raised over 1 million ringgit for the school, truly embodying the spirit of "grain by grain builds a tower".

Liu Jiujian pointed out that he joined the board of Lian Lyu Secondary School at the age of 45 and is now 75, quietly contributing throughout these years. He emphasized that "money can't buy hard times in youth," making the love and spirit of dedication to the school all the more precious.
He also mentioned that another long-serving vice chairman, Dato' Sri Liu Xianshi, is 80 this year. He hopes that such selfless dedication can be passed on to future generations, building up educational undertakings bit by bit.
He said that running education should not be limited to independent Chinese schools or Chinese-language education, but should also consider national education development and the inheritance of Chinese culture, while integrating international perspectives, promoting multilingual learning, and fostering national unity.
"Education should not be confined. What we hope to nurture are not only independent school students, but also talents with a world vision."
Additionally, through this year's Chinese New Year Lion Dance fundraising event, Miri Lian Lyu Secondary School successfully raised 1 million ringgit, providing vital resources for the school's development.
