(Miri, 24th) Miri Mayor Adam Yii said that the five-day 2026 Miri Festival was not just a celebration, but also successfully brought the community closer, united citizens, and showcased the multiculturalism and spirit of unity in Miri.

He made these remarks today while attending the closing ceremony of the 2026 Miri May Festival, held at the City Council building to coincide with the 21st anniversary of Miri’s elevation to city status.

He said that over the past few days, through various activities, performances, competitions, exhibitions, and community projects, citizens collectively experienced joy, laughter, and unity, imbuing the entire carnival with vitality and youthful energy.

He pointed out that whether it was families having fun together, children participating in games, local artists showcasing their talents, vendors creating a lively atmosphere, or visitors from all walks of life gathering together, all these truly reflected the spirit of the city of Miri.

Adam Yii expressed special thanks to the organizing committee, city council staff, volunteers, government agencies, partners, sponsors, vendors, and performers—everyone who contributed behind the scenes. Their efforts, teamwork, and dedication ensured the event went smoothly and created wonderful memories for the community.

He said that although everyone comes from different cultures, races, and backgrounds, they are always able to unite as one. This is Miri’s greatest strength and reflects the true meaning of this year’s “Multicultural” theme.

“I can proudly say that this year’s theme was extremely successful. We not only celebrated multiculturalism, but also deepened friendship, built connections, and celebrated unity as a community.”

He stated that as the event concludes, he hopes citizens will continue to carry forward the unity, harmony, and cohesion displayed during the celebration.

He also, on behalf of the Miri City Council, thanked all who contributed to the successful hosting of the 2026 Miri Festival.

He officially declared the 2026 Miri Festival closed and looked forward to gathering again next year.
