The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival opened on June 13th, with Tony Leung invited to serve as the president of the Golden Goblet jury. He arrived slightly late to the red carpet photo shoot, and his adorable and contrasting side while searching for his place in the group photo drew heated discussion among netizens.
Tony Leung, accompanied by his wife Carina Lau, walked the red carpet. When he returned to join the rest of the jury panel for a group photo, he didn't know where to stand because he was late, and cautiously shuffled in tiny steps. He ended up standing in the middle, directly blocking Xin Zhilei, and was humorously pushed onto Weibo's trending topics with the theme “Cautiously making mistakes.” Xin Zhilei and the other jury members were also amused by his endearing action, and the group photo was eventually completed under the staff’s guidance.
During the interview, Tony Leung spoke about his role as president of the Golden Goblet jury. He said that he shares a special connection with Shanghai and looks forward to sparking new ideas with fellow jury members during the film viewing process. He said, “For the past 40 years, I have focused on being an actor. Some directors’ creative perspectives or other actors’ viewpoints are things I very much need—they help me with analysis (as a juror).”
He added, “I will use a very open mindset to experience every film and every actor’s performance, rather than analyzing with my mind. In fact, it was some non-professional actors who inspired me in the 1990s and gradually helped me establish my own style.”
