
(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) An ambulance collided with a car at a traffic light intersection, resulting in seven people being injured.
Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zainal Zulkifli stated that the accident occurred at about 8:10 am on Monday at Jalan 6, Wangsa Maju Industrial Area, Kuala Lumpur, involving two cars and four motorcycles.
He said that preliminary investigations showed that a car travelling straight from Wangsa Maju direction passed through the intersection while the light was green; meanwhile, an ambulance coming from Jalan Kilang entered the intersection during a red light with its emergency lights and siren on and collided with the car.
“According to accident footage circulating on social media, it was confirmed that the ambulance had indeed activated its siren and warning lights. However, the ambulance driver was still responsible for slowing down when approaching and entering the traffic light intersection. The case is still under further investigation.”
The accident left a 40-year-old male motorcyclist with serious injuries, suffering a fractured right femur; the other injured included the ambulance driver and occupant, four male motorcyclists, and a 9-year-old girl, all sustaining minor injuries such as abrasions and body pain.
“All the injured have been sent to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for treatment.”
He said that at the time of the incident, the ambulance was not carrying any patients and was on its way to the People's Flats in the Gombak Setia area to pick up a patient.
In addition, two of the motorcyclists involved in the incident have not yet reported to the police station as they are still receiving treatment.
