(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar has called on all parties to respect the High Court’s decision on former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib’s application regarding the home detention addendum to his pardon, and not to disturb the situation or heighten tensions.

In a statement, he said that all parties should respect the judge’s decision, noting there are still legal channels and avenues to appeal, and that an application for a royal pardon can be sought according to the law.

"I urge all parties to handle this matter with patience and wisdom. Even if some do not sympathize with Datuk Seri Najib and his family, at this sensitive time, the situation should not be disrupted, nor should tensions be increased."

He emphasized that the Madani government has always firmly upheld the principles of the rule of law and separation of powers.

"The judiciary must and will continue to be free from external influence. Based on these principles, I respect the judge’s ruling."

The Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday dismissed Najib’s judicial review application, which sought to verify the existence of a so-called “pardon addendum” purportedly issued on January 29, 2024, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under home detention.

Judge Justice Lau Bee Lan ruled that this pardon addendum was neither discussed nor decided upon at the 61st meeting of the Pardons Board held on January 29, 2024.

With the application dismissed, Najib must serve out the rest of his sentence at Kajang Prison.
