(Miri, 18th) The Sarawak Party Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) held its Northern Sarawak representatives conference in Miri today, with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari officiating the opening ceremony.
Sarawak Deputy Premier and PBB Deputy Chairman Datuk Amar Awang Tengah noted that this is the third time Miri has hosted the conference with 18 branches. Apart from following the constitution, the conference also aims to facilitate discussions prior to the party conference to strengthen connections among members and promote Sarawak's sustainable development.
He stated that the party, established 50 years ago, has faced numerous challenges and difficulties but has grown from a small party to its present scale under wise leadership.
“Under the Premier's leadership, PBB exited Barisan Nasional in 2018 and formed the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), successfully bringing development to Sarawak.”
He pointed out that Sarawak’s 2025 fiscal budget is RM15.8 billion, the highest and most comprehensive in the state's history, particularly concerning the welfare of the people.
“The GPS also brings political stability to Malaysia, with Dato' Sri Fadillah serving as Deputy Prime Minister, along with several federal ministers and deputy directors.”
He hopes that both the newly elected and existing party leaders of various branches will contribute diligently to the party without losing morale over election defeats, as everyone plays different roles in the party.
He also mentioned that the Northern Sarawak members are the most ethnically diverse, yet all are united and have achieved much for Sarawak under the Premier’s leadership, including being recognized by the World Bank as a high-income state.
On the other hand, the party's Senior Vice President Datuk Stephen Rundi, while reading the resolution, stated that the conference unanimously supported the re-election of the party chairman and leadership positions without competition.
He said the meeting also endorsed increasing the parliamentary seats of Sarawak and Sabah to 35%.
