(Kuala Lumpur, 5th) Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar stated that he hopes, after stepping down, to leave behind a national leadership that is fair, clean, and responsible, serving all groups of people in our country!
Anwar said yesterday (the 4th) while attending a Chinese community banquet in Johor Bahru, Johor, that he hopes the image for which he is remembered is as a national leader who cares for all social classes, regardless of racial background.
“All citizens are equally important to the country. As prime minister, I must serve everyone, and I must show love for the people. I am already old, and if I retire tomorrow, I want people to say ‘Anwar loved the people deeply, and the people loved him too.’ So please treat this country as your own — this is the only way we can succeed.”
As the chairman of Pakatan Harapan, Anwar called on Malaysians that it is time to abandon race-based politics and wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to nation-building.
“Our country has been independent for nearly 70 years, yet we are still arguing about racial issues. For example, someone might say ‘this person can be my friend, but DAP people cannot’, or they think the DAP should stay in the capital and not come to Johor.”
Anwar also promised that, regardless of the outcome of the Johor state election, he would continue to drive Johor's development, but also reminded that if the state and federal governments maintain close relations, the development agenda would be smoother.
He once again urged all Johor voters to be sure to vote enthusiastically on the 11th of this month, including those working in Singapore or other states, because all racial groups can participate in voting, which is crucial for this election.
