(Manila, 15th) The latest report from the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council states that the southwest monsoon last month, along with tropical cyclones 'Carina', 'Dante', and 'Aemon', resulted in agricultural and infrastructure losses nearing 20 billion pesos (approximately 744 million ringgit).
Of this, agricultural losses amounted to 3.15 billion pesos, affecting 12 regions across the country. The hardest hit was Central Luzon, with losses of about 1.7 billion pesos, impacting as many as 98,307 farmers and fishermen. The Philippine Department of Agriculture has pledged to provide no less than 495.44 million pesos in assistance and has activated its quick response fund to support replanting efforts, mainly to help farmland in early sowing and nourishment stages resume production.
In terms of infrastructure, 11 regions recorded total losses reaching 16.5 billion pesos, with Central Luzon suffering the most at around 6.4 billion pesos.
Comprehensive data shows that the total losses for agriculture and infrastructure amount to around 19.67 billion pesos. Nationwide, 2,664,125 households—roughly 9,727,886 people—across 9,324 rural areas in 17 regions were affected.
