At least 165 Dead and 826 Missing in Nepal; 3 Chinese Dead and 558 Missing

As of Thursday afternoon, according to statistics released by Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Thursday, a total of 165 bodies have been found, with another 826 people missing. On the Chinese side, 2 people have been rescued from the mudslide disaster in Gyirong, Tibet, with 3 dead and 558 missing.

The Gyirong Mudslide Disaster Rescue Command held a press conference in Gyirong Town on Thursday morning. The Commander-in-Chief of the Rescue Command, Deputy Secretary of the Shigatse Municipal Party Committee and Acting Mayor Luo Bu Ciren, introduced that on the morning of August 26, a mudslide disaster occurred on the Nepalese side, causing significant casualties and disappearances at the Gyirong port in Gyirong County, Shigatse City. According to preliminary statistics, as of 8:00 a.m. on August 27, 2 villagers from Resuo Village had been successfully rescued, with 3 confirmed dead and 558 missing. Among the missing, 260 are foreigners.

At the beginning of the press conference, all staff observed a moment of silence for those who died in the Gyirong mudslide disaster.

Luo Bu Ciren said that after the disaster occurred, the main leaders of the autonomous region immediately rushed to the scene to direct the rescue efforts. Shigatse City launched a level-one emergency response for natural disaster relief, set up a front-line command, and organized professional forces from all sides to do their utmost in personnel search and rescue, resettlement of affected people, and supply of materials.

They have always adhered to the principle of putting people and life first. At present, all rescue operations are progressing actively and orderly. Next, they will make every effort to search for and rescue the missing, fully treat the wounded, continuously strengthen monitoring and early warning, prevent secondary disasters, and make every effort to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
